Introduction
The game is titled Pac-Man’s Time Travel Adventure.
It was created as part of Game Jam+ 2024, under the theme of reimagining a classic retro arcade game using its original elements to create a new experience, as a tribute to the origins of video games.
Inspired by one of my favorite and most iconic arcade games, Pac-Man, the project draws from both the original gameplay and its broader cultural presence. I was influenced by films such as Wreck-It Ralph, Pixels, and Free Guy, which reinterpret classic game characters within contemporary narratives.
Based on these inspirations, I wrote an original story script and designed a Pac-Man universe composed of multiple interconnected mini-games, blending nostalgia with new mechanics and playful experimentation.
In this project, I was responsible for game design, narrative scripting, character modeling and animation, as well as part of the programming. I also served as the team leader, coordinating development and guiding the creative direction of the project.
Main Discussion
This game includes four mini-games, featuring side-scrolling combat, cart-pushing, obstacle challenges, and a classic Pac-Man style game. Using cartoon-style visuals and bouncy, playful sound effects, it provides players with a fun and lighthearted gaming experience. The overall difficulty is relatively low, making it easy for anyone to pick up and play.
Key Takeaways
I personally created this bouncy Pac-Man model and designed many fun environmental interactions, such as allowing players to temporarily pause the gameplay and explore the scenery in a hot air balloon. The game also includes numerous Easter eggs and shortcut paths to skip levels, ensuring that both players who enjoy challenging their skills and those who like to deeply explore and uncover secrets can achieve a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.
