Introduction
The game is titled Lalaland.
It was created as part of the 2024 CIGA Game Jam, under the theme “Limited and Limitless.”
The game invites players to experience everyday life from the perspective of a blind young girl. Players are unable to see anything on screen; instead, the experience unfolds through environmental sound-driven storytelling and impression-based perception within a completely dark visual space. Through this approach, the game portrays small yet meaningful moments of life, conveying the idea that while a person’s body may be limited, their inner strength, spiritual world, and imagination can be boundless.
In this project, I was responsible for game design, sound design, and animation, contributing to both the conceptual framework and the sensory-driven player experience.
Main Discussion
This game uses various abstract paintings to represent the “abstract” inner world of a blind person. Because they cannot see, their perception of the world is formed through imagination and the re-creation of sound. When players are guided by environmental audio to approach an object within a completely dark visual space, a childlike abstract drawing appears, accompanied by an abstract description of the object from a blind person’s perspective, along with the sound effects produced upon touch, recreating the experience of that moment.
Key Takeaways
This game uses a fully automated AI-driven logic system to randomly generate routes and the events triggered along them, ensuring that players rarely encounter the same path twice. This approach aims to realistically simulate the fear, uncertainty, and unexpected situations experienced by a blind person while navigating the road.
